Alpha Challenge - 'V'

The Alpha Challenge is a brilliant new challenge over at the Craft Barn which lasts all year.  I have only just posted this in time as the closing date for entries for this first part is tomorrow - I must get more organised!  Its definitely worth a look, its fab fun.

I have chosen to make journal pages for this challenge - I have never made one before so this is my first tentative effort!  We were given a letter and then had to choose a word, I chose 'Vast' using the huge butterfly stamp in comparison to the tiny ones to illustrate the point.  The large butterfly is a wooden Creative Expressions stamp and the small butterflies are from Inky Doodles and Marion Emberson clear sets.  The leafy swirl is from Inky Doodles too.  I coloured the butterfly with Promarkers.  The large lettering is die cut with a Cuttlebug die set and the small lettering is handwritten.  The background is coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Ink direct to paper then spritzed with water, dried, then spritzed with Abominable Snowman Glimmer Mist.  I wanted to keep the background simple as the large butterfly is quite busy.  I added a touch of Stickles glitter glue to the butterfly applied with a cocktail stick so it isn't too heavy.  I also spread some  Stickles on the large lettering too.   I am looking forward to finding out what the next letter will be!  If you are struggling with the snow and freezing termperatures, take care and keep warm.  Thank you for visiting me and welcome to my new followers Lori and Anne - I really appreciate all of my blog friends - your support means such a lot. Take Care Christine xx

Hi Christine, well done on taking the first steps into journalling (it's a bit scary, I know). The butterfly is beautiful and I love how you dotted the words around, very effective and the stamping around the edge really draws the eye to the butterfly and word - really like what you have created. Hugs, Anne x

The first page of your new journal is lovely, Chris. I love that huge butterfly.
I am sure you will enjoy this project. I was really tentative when I started my first journal and looking back at the pages it shows, but a journal is such a fabulous way of practising new techniques and finding one's own style. It's also very therapeutic. I look forward to seeing your pages.
